The Fish Flyer came to fruition when Haynes was looking to design a board that merged the world of flow and performance in a smaller package to fit in tighter sections of a wave. The two most important attributes to any small wave performance board are speed and control. Haynes started designing the outline blending the curves of more traditional fish noses with the more performance driven winged swallow tails. This allows for a lot of curve in the front of the outline and a straighter rail line between your feet. A straight rail line creates extra drive by allowing for more of your rail to be stuck in the face of the wave. So the mix of the outline and the low entry rocker took care of the speed. To get the control Haynes was looking for, he added a wing, or flyer as they can also be called, behind the fins. This gives the surfer a narrower platform under their back foot allowing them to sink the tail into the water and give them control. The other common difficulty with twin fins is on the back hand they can sometimes release when under pressure, like on a bottom turn. Haynes added a channel between the rear fins to add some extra hold when in the critical parts of the wave. This channel helped with down the line speed but also control and hold when it matters most. All of these attributes are blended together to create a well balanced performance twin fin, with fish-like paddle ability and performance maneuverability.

The Fish Flyer comes as a twin fin only and can be used with an array of fins. Haynes personally like the Al Merrick Keel fin for lots of drive and sweeping turns. For a more performance feel the EN twin fins by futures are a great option as well.
